Ahhhhh Fort Rock

I made a trip to fort rock today. I made an attempt at retracing the race course, but failed, failed miserably. But did have one of the best rides there as I logged in 10 miles in a little over an hour and a half. Found a trail that was in its infancy as the only marks were pink tapes around trees and brush marking the new trail. It was kind of cool blazing new territory, but was a little worried of where I'd end up. It was late and was worried that I'd be lost and in the dark in the woods.
I met up with two guys in the new pink tape laced trail, one was in their late 30s and one was avout 50. They ride there all the time and when they saw me figured I knew where I was going and asked if they could follow. So they followed me being lost and confused as I was blazing the new trail. It eventually lead us to a trail we all knew and continued the ride together. Mark the 50 year old was probably the fastest guy I have ever ridden with. he floated over technical and was always ahead of me and the other guy. I kept up as best I could but was always quickly dropped. But the combination of the quick pace, new trails, fast technical singletrack, and good company made it a solid ride.
After the ride, back at the lot, we exchanged conversations ranging from moab, which i will do someday and being hit by car on the bike and night riding, which i need to do too, over ice cold budwieser beer from a pink cooler. There was also talk of new rides to take place at the fells, lynn woods and vietnam in Milford, some in Connetticutt. I told them I'd show then around at the fells, lynn and vietnam. So we exchanged emails and went our way after sitting in the parking lot at fork rock for about an hour after the ride.
